Following is some information to help you navigate the board...

Folders:

The iVillage message boards are divided into sections by using folders.  There are several folders on the IVF Board as follows:

IVF Chit Chat and More...

This section is for just about anything to do with IVF – you can introduce yourself, offer support, ask general questions, rant, go O.T. (off topic), play games, you name it!

Note – posts pertaining to cycles, pg updates, etc. belong in those specific folders.

In a Cycle

This section is dedicated to our ladies in a cycle.  You can talk/ask questions about suppressing, stimming, retrieval, transfer, the two-week wait or anything else associated with being in a cycle.

In Limbo and Beyond...

This section is dedicated to our ladies between cycles, otherwise known as "limbo".  It's also for our ladies whom are no longer trying to conceive via IVF, but are working at moving on...whether it is dealing with living childlessly, dealing with not having another child, adopting, etc...  It's a place for our ladies between cycles and no longer trying to continue to gather support from the ladies they know and trust.

PG Updates

This section is dedicated to our "graduates" - our members who become pregnant via IVF.  It's a special place where they can stick around, give us updates on their progress, ask questions, etc.  It's our grads that give us hope that IVF will work for us ladies in waiting!!!

News from the CL

This section contains info from your CLs (Kim & I) and will be things such as articles, studies, new things around iVillage, posting tags, etc.

IRL Gathering Info Only

This was a temporary Folder for an In Real Life Gathering.  This section is now dedicated to our off board gatherings people want to organize - Everyone is welcome!

Explore iVillage

This section is used by CLs from other iVillage message boards to post invites to us to visit their boards.

Netiquette:

Netiquette is a term to describe the proper behavior for posting on the message boards.

  • Avoid posting using all caps throughout your entire post.  IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE SHOUTING.

  • Keep it clean.  It is against iVillage TOS (terms of service)to use masked vulgarity, obscenity or profanity (The example used in iVillage TOS to show an example of this is f*ck.).

  • It's against iVillage TOS to post links to other boards outside of iVillage, links to similar boards within iVillage and links to boards within iVillage that may cause disruption on the other board.  It's okay to post links to helpful sites within iVillage and to those that don't contain message boards outside of iVillage.

  • Keep in mind that everyone may interpret each post a bit differently.  If you read a post and it raises your short hairs, skip it, come back later and re-read it or just simply ignore it.  We know, we know, much easier said than done, but responding when ones short hairs are up may result in a "play nice" message.

  • As a courtesy, remember to preface your post when it contains information that may be upsetting to other members.  We'd prefer you include the preface in the title of the thread, but if that is not possible, include it as the first line of your post and then space down four or five lines and begin your post.  When replying, please do the same thing if a sensitive topic is being brought up - preface reply, space down four or five lines and then begin your reply.  This will give other members the option of not reading your reply.  Some information requiring a preface includes:

    • pregnancy - pg ment'd
    • miscarriage - m/c ment'd
    • children or babies – child or babies ment'd
    • sons or daughters - DS or DD ment'd

  • As a courtesy, please be cognizant when posting a reply to those experiencing a loss.  If you have tickers or pics in your sigs that you think may be upsetting to a member having a rough time, please remove it/them.  Note:  We are not implying that you never post with your sig/ticker on the board – we are extremely happy for you and love seeing your progress! J

  • Remember that anything you post to our message board is public.  You never know who's reading it, or who may copy it and spread it around.  Don’t put your real last name, address, phone number, etc. in your messages.

  • It is suggested that you not post your email address in your message. Use the Member-to-Member email feature to allow others to contact you if you wish. We recommend that you use this feature. Member-to-Member email may be turned on in your Board Settings. (You will find a link at the top of the board page for your board settings)

Read

Read through some of the threads to get a feel for the styles the various members use when posting.  Remember, you can't see their facial expressions or hear their voice inflections, so they may be smiling and waving hello when you feel that they are blasting someone.

Post

Create topics of your own or join in ones already started. Each person here has something to say - advice to give from their experiences, ideas and thoughts that may help someone or just a wish of good luck or prayers and positive thoughts.  Polls are a good way to learn what opinions people have on a certain subject.  Try not to be a "viewer" just reading.  You are welcome here, so post away!

If your post includes a sensitive topic, include such info in the thread title or at the very beginning of your post.  Example:  m/c (miscarriage) ment'd, DD or DS ment'd, pg ment'd

Oh, if you want to post an off topic discussion, please do.  Just add OT (off topic) to the beginning of your thread.  Example:  OT – Found a great recipe

Ignore

If you read a post and are not sure what was meant or if you feel that it is a sensitive subject, choose your words wisely when replying.  If you are upset by the post or feel defensive by what was said, sometimes it's a good idea to ignore that post and come back to it later. If you feel that there is a post that violates the Terms Of Service (TOS) you can report that violation by using the link provided at the upper right of the message.
